Website Wizard

Web Hosting Program Review

.

This web hoster is home to three of my sites, including this one  which has been online since 2003. This site, together with all my others,  ranks in the top 3 to 5 percent of all websites on the net. (Give or take a little Google dancing from time to time);-

Pros—Website Wizard will spoil you with its “point and click” instant website building and publishing interface. As a result, in the two years I’ve been on the net with my sites, I still don’t know how to upload a page-using FTP, and I don’t know any html (except for a few snippets of code I picked up at Web-Source.net). This is a full featured website builder that is very user friendly, with lots of tools that integrate seamlessly. They recently upgrades their user manual (which I haven’t read yet) but which is available at the site for review.

They offer newsletter templates that are easy to use. You can also easily create a forum, a survey, a pop up, accept orders online, etc. using their service. This program is awesome for those who only want to be able to “point and click” there mouse to build a professional looking website at lightening speed. I had a five page website up in about two days after I subscribed to the service.

Cons—Having begun my website building experience using SBI, I was somewhat disappointed with the way my Website Wizard pages looked when they were listed in the search engines. There were no individual page descriptions or titles so that all the pages looked the same and did not encourage browsers to click on a links even when my pages were listed on page one of Google or Yahoo or MSN. The company upgraded so that now individual page titles and descriptions show up correctly in search engine searches. This tweak undoubtedly helped its site owners rank better in SEs.

My biggest concern with the service now is with the statistics module which contains only the number of hits to an individual page and the IPO addresses of the hitters. Only two reports. There is no way to get info needed to analyze your site visitors or to track affiliate links or other statistical info through their program. There is a program they sell separately, which provides this function, but it is not a part of the suite of services included in two of its packages, as with the two other full featured programs I have used. To overcome this and get better statistical information on my site visitors clicking patterns, I used the free Site Meter program.

As one of my sites hosted by this company has grown to more than 150 pages, building my pages now takes a little longer than they used to. I have found some relief to this dilemma by using the Fire Fox browser by Mozilla instead of the IE browser.

The other concern with this provider is the fact that it does not offer sub domain hosting or parking of domain names on an account, so anyone with more than one website has to maintain separate hosting accounts for each domain name. And this makes the cost of hosting multiple websites quite expensive. To overcome this, I have often taken advantage of the specials it runs each new year which offers site hosting at reduced rates. Problem with this is that each year I end up having to dismantle the previous years site (and work) in order to keep from paying full price for these “specially priced” sites I picked up the previous year.

My favorite feature: This program lets me build new web pages in record speed. The image collection is very convenient for finding the right images to complement your text.

Costs: Several plans: $9.95 - $46.95. You get to test drive it for free!
